This update further cleans up and streamlines the WordPress Dashboard and administrative views. It also enables drag-and-drop uploads via the file picker.

We also added a new plugin to support the college’s mobile initiative. This mobile switcher allows the use of a new mobile department theme. Communications Division will be working with departments over the next few weeks to activate this theme and optimize individual sites for mobile.

  • Tags: The index page for tags no longer says “Archive”; instead it works like categories and lists the name of the tag.
  • Author Names: The names of post authors were removed from the News Widget, which streamlines the block’s presentation.

It also introduces the “admin bar”, which is a black bar with administrative functions that appears at the top of your site whenever you are logged in. This bar only appears when you’re logged into the site; regular visitors can’t see it.

  • Google Analytics not tracking statistics
    • There are two reasons why Google Analytics may not be tracking traffic to your site:
      • You were recently converted to the new nextWeb theme
        • If this is the case, please contact Communications Division for help in setting up a new Google Analytics profile.
      • You are experiencing a bug with Google Analytics plugin:
        • There is a known issue with Google Analytics that causes the following error message to appear for those using the plugin: “Google Analytics is not active. You must select which Analytics Profile to track before it can work”
        • Documentation on how to fix this error message is available on the ITS web site.

Your data is fine — the Google Analytics report for your site wasn’t affected by this — but while the profile is disabled, it won’t be tracking new visits to your site. To fix that, you need to re-enter your profile information.
